Past Winter Park - Fraser Valley Club Activities

  • Please join us February 2nd for a presentation by Leanna Roberts of the Vail Club to learn about OrphanAct--a Rotary supported NGO that works to support orphans in counties where the need is both challenging and compelling.
  • Join us on the January 26th for Gary DeVries who will be talking about the life of a ship's Captain!
  • Join us next Tuesday the 4th to learn more about Mountain Parks Green Energy Programs when Rob Taylor of Mountain Parks Electric presents to the Club.
  • Then on Tuesday Nov 10th, we'll visit with Kirk Klancke, District Manager of the Winter Park Ranch Water & Sanitation District who will be telling us about The Moffat Water Firming Project 
  • Next Tuesday the 13th!  PLEASE MEET OVER AT THE NEW REC CENTER !  The WPFV Rotary Club will be treated by Dan O'Connell to a TOUR OF THE NEW REC DISTRICT REC CENTER as it nears completion! Don't forget to bring a hard hat if you have it..
  • On the 6th of October, we hope you can join us for Glen Trainor, Chief of Police for the Towns of Winter Park & Fraser for discussions of Law enforcement topics important to our community.

  • Our other programs lined up for September are, on the 15th, Tim Showalter of the Granby Club will be our guest to talk about Update on Energy Policy in the US.. and on the Sept 29th, we'll see Penny Suazo, Principal, Fraser Valley Elementary
  • Please join us Tuesday Aug 25th to hear from our own Eden Recor to learn about the status of our Club's Ecuador ProjectEden will be sharing with us the story of his recent trip to Ecuador this summer and about his direct particiation in the project and how the work is going.  He'll be showing photos from his trip and talking about the current state of the water project in the village of Malingua Pamba--a Quecha village that is about the same altitude as WP--10,000 feet above sea level. Visitors are welcome to attend what promises to be an excellent presentation. Hope you can make it
  • MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!  Please let your friends and neighbors know that the WPFV-Rotary will be hosting our Congressmen Jared Polis on Tuesday September 1st. Everyone is welcome to attend and to meet and speak with the person that represents you in Washington DC! 
  • Please join us and bring a friend next Tuesday the 11th to what promises to be a very interesting meeting with our Speaker: Mike Thompkins who will talk to our Club about Grand Lake Issues.  You also might wish to come early to visit with some esteemed guests who will be joining us include Brandon Shaffer, President of the Colorado State Senate, John Morse State Senate Majority Leader, Dan Gibbs our District's State Senator, and Elena Barishnikova a Rotarian from the Ukrain
  • Please join us this week for a presentation by District 5450 Literacy Chair  Hal Koczwara. Come and learn about our District's literacy programs and how important they can be to families the world over.   And.. We'll be at the picnic groups just near the south end of the Beaver Village Lodge.. Follow the dirt road by foot, cross the bridge and you're there.
  • Host Families Needed for Exchange Student!
    The WPFV Club has the opportunity to host a Rotary Exchange Student for the coming school year, but need to find 2 or more host families to host the student for the better part of a year. Our student this year is a young Argentenian woman who will be a senior in high school. She speaks English but wants to improve her speaking skills while living here. If you or anyone you know is interested in being a host family or learning more about what is required, contact our Youth Committee Chair, Judith Graham at 726-9543

  • Attention Golfers! Do your part to help the WPFV Rotary Club raise funds to support Rotary International's fight to completely eradicate Polio from the world.  The 2nd Annual WPFV Rotary Golf Tournament will have a Shotgun start at 1:00PM, Monday July 27th.    Have a schedule conflict or not a golfer but still want to help?  We're also looking for hole sponsors for support. Hole sponsorship costs $100 and you'll get your name on the pin of the hole you sponsor.  Contact Club President Mark Lund to sign up to play or to be a hole sponsor. (you can also use our contact form )Cost to play will be $125 per player.
  • This week's guests at our Tuesday noon lunch meeting are Megan Ledin, Executive Director & Ron Nelson, Board President of the Grand Foundation.  Please join us to hear the two community leaders..
  • Grand County Food Banks Running Low!!  Grand County's food banks are reporting extremely high usage and unusually bare shelves for this time of the year and are asking for our help. Our Winter Park Fraser Valley Rotary Foundation will match up to $500 in members donations and Grand Mountain Bank will donate another $1000 to the cause.  Help us take the edge off of hunger here in Grand County.. contact us at info@wpfv-rotary.org to find out where you can leave food, or simply send a check made out to the "WPFV Rotary Foundation" and mail it to: Winter Park-Fraser Valley Rotary Club, PO Box 745, Winter Park, Colorado 80482, USA

  • Adopt A River Clean Up Date Set!  The WPFV Rotary Club is joining with the Colorado Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited to do our semi-annual clean up of the Fraser River.  To learn more about the Fraser River Adopt-a-River Project, join us on Wedenesday May 27th at 4:00 p.m. at the Lion's Pavillion just south of Safeway in Fraser.  We will clean our usual portion from the Safeway south to Rendezvous.  Trout Unlimited will be cleaning from the Safeway north to County Road 8. If you can make it please contact Will Arduino to let him know you can help. (you can also use our contact form too) Note that Sandwiches and beverages are provided at the conclusion of the clean up, so take this opportunity to come out and help maintain this community resource.
  • May 5th's speakers are Kay Borvansky and Roberta Hovermale of  Horizons Specialized Services  Horizon's provides help to individuals with developmental delays or disabilities in the five counties of northwest Colorado
  • Happy End of the season everyone!  This Tuesday April 21st Savannah Shipman will be our lunch speaker.  Savannah spent a year in Turkey as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange program. If Savannah’s presentation at our annual dinner is any indication, it will be a great program.
  • Tuesday April 14th speaker was Gary Defrange from the Winter Park Resort. Gary joined us for an update from the Resort on how the season went and what the summer has in store.
  • Tuesday April 7th saw guest speaker Carol Wolff of the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. She joined us to let us know about the upcoming season & RMRT's building project.  
  • Next Tuesday, March 10th, Lion's Club member and long time coordinator of the Fraser Valley 9 Health Fair, John Erwin will be speaking to the club about the upcoming Fraser Valley Health Fair.  This is one of the most important health events in our valley each year and a great way to see your friends and neighbors who've been hiding indoors all winter.  Let's give John a great audience and learn what's new about this year's 9 Health Fair! 
  • This week's meeting is our "1st week of the month" early morning meeting (already!) so remember to join us at the Beavs for our 7:30AM breakfast meeting March 3rd..  Our speaker next week will be one of our own, Dan O'Connell.  As President of the Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District, Dan will be talking to our club about the progress of the construction for the new Fraser Recreation Center as well as the progress on the other Rec District projects at Pole Creek and the Fraser Valley Sports complex.
  • Our Speaker on February 24th is Sondra Chessare.  Sondra is the  Executive Director of the Advocates Victim Assistance Team of Grand County.   ADVOCATES: Victim Assistance Team is a non-profit, volunteer based organization whose mission is to end domestic and sexual violence in the Grand County Community.  To accomplish this mission, ADVOCATES provides extensive victim support services, information, prevention education, and community awareness.  Please come and welcome Sondra and learn more about the essential services Advocates provides in our community. 
  • This Tuesday Feb 17th is a Club Assembly meeting so come out and enjoy some good old fashioned Rotary fellowship over a relaxed lunch at the Beav's. PLEASE NOTE The Mountain Family Center needs our help.  If you have any extra food that you can donate, Steve Radcliffe will be collecting what you bring at this meeting--or you can drop it a the Gallery IV store in Winter Park.  
  • Granby is having there winter social at Mavericks Grill in Granby on Friday night Feb 20th. It starts at 6:30 w/a cash bar with dinner at 7:30. Cost $30 per person. Prime Rib or Sea Bass.There will also be a small silent auction during the cocktail hour. Come enjoy the fellowship of Rotary! 
  • Mark your calendars for our lunch speaker on Feb 10th which will be Al Barrett of the Granby Club.  Al will be sharing his story and photos from his trip to Summit Mount Everest!
  • Community Event!  Attendthe public meeting to discuss issues relating to the Recreation Center in WP/Fraser.  Sky Hi Daily News is sponsoring a public forum on Thursday February 5th at the Fraser Library from 6 to 8 PM.  All Rec District broad candidates will be at that forum and it should be a good & open discussion of the issues before our community on this important topic.
  • Don’t forget this Tuesday's the 3rd's Breakfast 7:30 AM @ The Beav’s. Our meeting will be an international one featuring the international staff currently @ Beaver Village from Columbia, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay & Brazil.  Plus our guest speaker is Zibinew Zemikowski [Ziggy] who will be talking about communist control of Poland and his flight from the iron curtain to West Berlin and then to Dallas, TX. 
  • On Tuesday January 20th, our Club's will visit with the Granby Club's Stewart Thomson who is also the Chair of the Grand County Planning Commission.  Stewart will be presenting some historical real estate sales data as compared with '08.  This promises to be an interesting presentation so invite your friends. 
  • Steve Radciffe has been successful is finding an excellent guest speaker for the January 27th's lunch meeting. Traci Maddox will be speaking to our Club about her new book called "The Essential Employee" which talks about how to create success by becoming essential in the workplace 
  • DON'T FORGET ! ! This Tuesday the 6th of Jan is our first try at having a once a month 7:30AM Tuesday morning meeting.  Our speaker will be Jaymes Wood who is the new Excutive Director of Grand Youth Adventures.  Note that only the 1st Tuesday of each month is a breakfast meeting.. the rest are at noon as usual. 

  • Mountain Family Center can use your help.  Our Rotary Club is making a $500 donation to the Mountain Family Center this holiday season, but given the state of the economy, especially here in Grand County, MFC will need all of the help they can get.  They are looking for individuals willing to sponsor families for the holidays.  For more details on how you can make a personal contribution to the Mountain Family Center, give them a call at 725-3257. 
  • Mark your schedules for next week's lunch speaker too. Dale Sonnet of the High Country Stampede Rodeo will be joining us. As this was the 25th Anniversary for the Stampede there will be lots to review.
  • This weeks WPFV Tuesday lunch speaker will be our AG Mark Krieg.  Join us!
  • Join the WPFV Rotary Club this Friday December 5th at 4:30 PM to decorate a tree for the Lions Club Christmas Tree Auction.  Wine will be served for the decorators.  The Lion's Club XMas Tree auction will be the next day, Saturday December 6th from 4 to 8 PM.  Both events will happen at Beaver Village Lodge.
  • Please join the WPFV Rotary Club at this years annual fund raiser and enjoy Grand Theater's production of "Ha Ha Holidays" on Dec 4th. Our annual fundraiser's doors will open at 6:30PM to start the social & silent auction with the Play to follow at 7:30PM.  All this will once again take place at the Grand Theater in Winter Park.  Tickets are $25 each with all proceeds going to purchase Rotary Shelter Boxes for disaster relief around the world.  Don't forget our silent auction too so if you have items to donate, please bring them to a club meeting so we can start getting prepared for the event.  Thanks to Petra Recor who is heading up this effort and could use some additional volunteers to help with the auction.  Please contact her at 627-5068 if you can help.

  • With Elections less than a month away, don't miss the chances to meet a number of candidates who'll be visiting w/ the WPFV Rotary Club. (Invite your friends and Neighbors too!)  Tuesday Oct 7th, Todd Hagenbuch will join us.  Todd is running for Colorado House District 57. Then on the Oct 21st, we'll have as our guest Randy Baumgardner who is the republican candidate--also running for the same seat. Then on Tuesday the 28th Republican candidate running for the 2nd Congressional District, Scott Starin, will visit with us.

  • PLEASE NOTE if you're interested in travelling to Ecuador to see this project in action, Eden Recor is leading a group there from October 16 throught the 26th.  Total cost for transportation etc. will be around $2,000.
  • Our speaker this week will be Past District Governor Mike Hayes.  He'll talk to us about his Micro Lending and revolving credit experiences in Rotary.. 
  • Don't miss your chance to meet your District Governor, Steve Cantrell Tuesday the 23rd at our lunch meeting at Beaver Village Lodge. Members can also come early (10:30AM) to attend the Club's board meeting too.
  • The 1st Annual Grand County Rotary Golf Tourney was a great success.  The tournament raised more than $2400 towards the WPFV Rotary club's goal of $3000 for the polio eradication effort and matching grant from the Gates Foundation.  A job well done by Mark Lund & Will Arduino and to all participants that made this event a success!

  • Debbie Harris from the Troublesome Horse Rescue organization (who was our speaker 8/26/08) wanted us to pass along that they are having their annual fundraising dinner, Saturday Oct 18, starting at 5:00 p.m. at Caroline's Cuisine near Grand Lake.  The cost is $60 per person.   • Join us for next Tuesday's lunch meeting (Aug 12th at noon, at Beaver Village Lodge in WP)  to hear Fran Cook, Mayor of Fraser speaking about current events at the City of Fraser.
  • Don't forget to attend the Einsenhower Statue's unvailing event on August 9ths 10AM near the fishing ponds in Fraser 
  • Don't miss this weeks lunch speaker fellow Rotarian Dan Clark from the Parker Rotary club who will be speaking about the details of Rotary's final push to eradicate Polio.
  • THIS THURSDAY the 24th.. Mark your calenders to see Susanne Jalbert speaking at the Winter Park Town Hall on Thursday, July 24 at 7PM.. She will be presenting her story of her three years in Iraq.

  • This week's (5-27-08) lunch speaker will be Joan Boyle, ED of Grand County Habitat for Humanity.  She will be speaking about the important role that affordable housing plays in Grand Couty and also about GC HH's "Habitat Hobbie" --the Grand County's HH fund raising evnent

Jen will present the "Aches" Program for Adults & "Pains" Program for Kids here in Grand County.  Join us and learn more about these 2 great healthcare programs and how they are bringing affordable health care to Grand County.

  • Please join us as Ian Munday from Rotary's Shelter Box program tells this remarkable story of how the Shelter Box Program provides basic humanitarian aid world-wide  
  • Check out Rotary International's World Water Day (March 22nd 2008!) web site here. It's part of Rotary's big effort in March to raise awareness about the millions of people around the world with no safe water supply.
  • Join the WPFV Rotary Club on lunch on Feburary 5th for a screening of the movie "Hurricane on the Bayou" hosted by Tab Benoit. Hear the story of the changes that are visible in New Orleans long after Katrina
